European Values Network 2009 overview
40 participants, young scholars, experts, and professionals, from 17 EU countries took part in the European Values Network 2009. With the help of politicians, academics, and policy makers, they set a goal to find solutions to the following issues:
- Single European Market: Liberalization and deregulation as the path to follow?
- EU-Russia Relations: How to enhance cooperation beyond the energy agenda?
- European Elections: How can European political parties mobilize voters?
- European Defence Policy: Opportunities and challenges under the new US administrative?
- The Successful Integration of Immigrants: What should be the common European standards?

The European Values Network 2008 was held under the auspices of President of the European Parliament Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, and with the support of Mr. Josef Zieleniec. The EVN 2008 participants consisted of 45 outstanding young scholars and experts from 17 EU countries. The outcome of their work has been summarized in a publication of five policy-papers on the following issues:
- Legitimate government in the EU: What system for the formation of the European Commission?
- A new architecture for Europe: How to integrate the Eastern EU neighbours without full membership?
- Illegal immigration: What effective measures to prevent it?
- New security environment: What strategies for transatlantic partners?
- Economy: How to ensure social consensus while making Europe competitive in the globalized world?

- How should EU institutions be reformed in order to improve efficiency and motivate citizens to engage moret?
- Where should the borders of the EU be, and how shall we deal with our diverse neighbourhood?
- How shall the challenge of immigration to Europe be addressed?
- How can we comply with responsibility to future generations as far as the economy and the environment are concerned?
- What should the EU do in order to reinforce the promotion of its interests in the world?
